Plastic Shears

P Series Plastic Shears for Clean, High-Speed Sheet Cutting

Engineered to Perform.

Wysong P Series plastic shears are mechanical shears built to cut plastic sheets quickly and cleanly, whether they run as standalone machines or inside an automated cut-to-length line. These plastic sheet cutting machines handle acrylic, polycarbonate, PVC, ABS, and other thermoplastics with straight, consistent edges that cut trim waste and secondary finishing. A cast iron frame, fast stroke rates, and custom sizing options let you match each plastic cutting machine to your material, sheet width, and throughput.

What Is a Plastic Shear?

A plastic shear cuts a plastic sheet with an upper and lower blade in a single straight stroke. Saws and routers throw chips and dust that have to be cleaned up, and friction heat can gum or melt the edge on some thermoplastics. A shear makes the cut in one pass with no chips, which makes it a faster fit for high-volume sheet processing.

On Wysong P Series shears, a mechanical drive powers each stroke to keep cycle rates high for continuous production. In a cut-to-length line, the shear takes its cut length and quantity from the line’s master PLC and cuts automatically as sheet feeds through.

P Series Plastic Shear Features

Key Features and Advantages:

High-Speed Cutting: Wysong shears are optimized for speed, making them ideal for high-volume environments. Rapid blade cycles with up to 300 strokes per minute reduce production time while maintaining accuracy and edge quality.

Heavy-Duty Construction: Cast Iron frames and high-quality components ensure long-term durability, even under continuous use. Wysong mechanical shears for plastic are built to handle demanding applications with minimal maintenance.

Custom Configurations: Available in a variety of sizes and capacities to match your material and throughput requirements.

Built for Thermoplastics: Designed to cut acrylic, polycarbonate, PVC, ABS, and other thermoplastic sheets with precision.

Plastic Shear Configuration Options

Strokes per Minute (SPM)

Stroke rate sets how well a shear keeps pace with your line. Wysong high-speed shears are available at 200 or 300 strokes per minute, delivering fast, consistent cycles for plastic sheet and extrusion lines without giving up edge quality. Our team will help you match stroke rate to your sheet thickness, width, and line speed.

Drivetrain

The choice of drivetrain affects everything from power delivery and responsiveness to maintenance requirements and energy efficiency. Wysong gives fabricators the flexibility to choose a shear that perfectly aligns with their production goals, material types, and operating environment.

Our gearbox-driven shear is the workhorse of the industry, known for its durability and torque. This drivetrain uses a robust motor and gearbox combination to deliver consistent cutting power, especially beneficial when working with thick or high-tensile materials.

Direct drive systems, by contrast, eliminate the need for intermediate gearing by connecting the motor directly to the cutting mechanism. This results in greater energy efficiency, reduced mechanical complexity, and faster response times. Ideal for high-speed, high-volume operations.

Controls and Cut-to-Length Line Integration

Wysong offers a range of shear control options to suit every production need, from intuitive cnc touchscreen controls to fully integrated cut to length systems. Whether you’re looking for advanced programmability, real-time feedback, or seamless line integration, Wysong’s control options give you the flexibility to operate your shear exactly how your application demands.

In fully automated environments, Wysong cut-to-length line shears are controlled entirely by a central PLC, eliminating the need for operator input at the shear itself. In these systems, cut length, quantity, and sequencing are all determined by the upstream line control, with the shear responding automatically to signals from the master PLC. This integration ensures seamless coordination between feeding, leveling, and cutting processes for coil processing applications.

Why Use a Mechanical Shear for Plastic?

Advantages of Mechanical Plastic Shears

  • High-Volume Production: Mechanical shears excel in applications requiring repetitive, high-speed cuts, making them a strong fit for continuous plastic sheet and extrusion lines.
  • Thin to Mid-Gauge Sheet: These machines perform especially well on plastic sheets, where precision and speed both matter.
  • ROI Considerations: For manufacturers focused on high-volume, low-to-moderate gauge materials, the speed of mechanical shears can deliver significantly higher throughput than a comparable hydraulic shear.

Plastic Shear FAQs

1What is a plastic shear used for?

A plastic shear cuts a plastic sheet to size in a single straight stroke. Manufacturers use plastic shears to cut blanks from acrylic, polycarbonate, PVC, ABS, and other thermoplastic sheets, either as a standalone machine or inline on an extrusion or cut-to-length line.

2What plastics can a Wysong P Series shear cut?

Wysong P Series plastic shears are designed for acrylic, polycarbonate, PVC, ABS, and other thermoplastics. Machines are available in multiple cutting widths and gauge capacities, so our team will match the shear to your material and sheet size.

3Can a plastic shear run on a cut-to-length line?

Yes. On a Wysong cut-to-length line, the shear is controlled by a central PLC. Cut length, quantity, and sequencing come from the upstream line control, and the shear cuts automatically on signal with no operator input at the machine.

4What is the difference between a gearbox-driven and a direct drive shear?

A gearbox-driven shear uses a motor and gearbox to deliver high torque and consistent cutting power. A direct drive shear connects the motor straight to the cutting mechanism, which improves energy efficiency, reduces mechanical complexity, and speeds response for high-volume lines.

5Are Wysong plastic shears made in the USA?

Yes. Every Wysong P Series shear is designed, manufactured, and assembled in the United States, and is supported by a nationwide network of regional service technicians and parts support.
